Pryor’s FFA barn, located just across 9th Street from Pryor High School, is more than a set of buildings—it’s a working classroom. The facilities include work areas and a show arena where students can raise cattle, hogs, sheep, and goats for livestock shows such as the Mayes County Fair and the Tulsa State Fair.
The Mayes County Fair wrapped up this past weekend, with Pryor students displaying their confidence while exhibiting dairy cattle, sheep, goats, and swine, along with other show animals. The barns provide everything students need to succeed—holding pens, stalls, exercise areas, wash stations, and a practice show arena. Through the process of raising and exhibiting livestock, students learn responsibility, patience, and gain an appreciation for animal care and the agricultural lifestyle.
Academic and Technical Training
FFA instructors Braydyn Willard and Jarrod Melugin guide students in developing both academic knowledge and technical skills. Alongside livestock management, students take courses in welding, mechanics, floriculture, leadership, and communication. These authentic, hands-on experiences prepare Tigers to become the next generation of agricultural professionals.
Public speaking is also emphasized in FFA. Students participate in speech contests, hear from motivational speakers, and sharpen leadership abilities through competitive and collaborative events. Career Development Competitions give students a taste of professional pathways, with Pryor participants competing in food science, poultry, wildlife, veterinary science, and even skeet shooting.
Giving Back to the Community
FFA also prioritizes service. Each year, Pryor FFA students organize a canned food drive and respond to community needs as they arise. In recent years, they’ve stepped up to help with tornado cleanup and supported Lisa Bone Ministries with handmade cards.
Tradition Meets Innovation
Like Pryor itself—with its small-town atmosphere and strong rural roots alongside modern opportunities—FFA offers a wide range of experiences. Whether in the barn, the classroom, the show ring, or the community, Pryor FFA is helping students build skills, character, and leadership that will serve them for a lifetime.
