Beginning with the end in mind is how Pryor Public Schools starts each year—and that preparation is especially important for teachers who are new to the district.

New educators took a deep dive into the fundamental principles of teaching and learning during the district’s New Teacher Academy, held Aug. 3–5. Each day focused on an important part of beginning the school year: Day One introduced teachers to Leader in Me, Day Two centered on teaching and learning, and Day Three covered human resources information and support.

Superintendent Dr. Lisa Muller was on hand to welcome the new teachers and introduce them to their building administration teams. Assistant Superintendent Dr. Tiffany Ballard and the Teaching and Learning Team shared insight into the values that guide teaching, learning and leadership throughout Pryor Public Schools.

Leader in Me consultant Ashley Carranco gave a presentation introducing the new teachers to the Leader in Me framework and the principles that help shape the District’s culture.

The three-day experience introduced teachers to district expectations, instructional practices and resources that will support them throughout the school year. Just as importantly, it provided time for the District’s newest educators to connect, collaborate and begin building relationships with their colleagues.

Through shared learning and relationship-building, the professional development helped establish the Tiger teamwork that strengthens classrooms, school communities and the District as a whole.
